Hello, I am Dr. Mamoun

To start off, mental health and psychological wellbeing are essential and no shame to who seeks support to live better, and I am here for that.

My story began in 1975 when I was in third year medical school at Damascus University, I almost left medicine to study one of the humanities, like psychology, sociology or even education… because I was aware at a young age of the importance of such studies for individuals and societies.

After doing some research and consultation I decided to finish the medical school as a physician but only to specialized in psychiatry and mental health.

Soon after graduation I went to Ireland where I specialized in psychiatry and psychological health, gaining experience in several hospitals for ten years, then moved to Northern Ireland, UK for further twenty years working with the UK Ministry of Health (National Health Services/ NHS) and teaching psychiatry and history of Islamic medicine at Queens’ University Belfast.

2010 I was invited with my family to work in the Middle East, and since then I have been working as a consultant psychiatrist, and currently I am the head of Treatment & Rehabilitation Department of the State of Qatar. While in Qatar I taught for a couple of years Psychology and Social Psychology at Qatar Community College, which is affiliated with Huston Community Collage.

Over the years, starting from “The Troubles” in Northern Ireland, I became interested in the psychological aspects of trauma, weather it is man-made like wars, armed conflicts, and even civilian accidents, or due to national disasters like earthquake. Since 2002 I have been on field visits to Palestine, West Banks, Gaza, Kashmir, Lebanon, China and Hong Kong, Bosnia Herzegovina, Tunisia, Kosovo, and currently with Syrians and others.

This longstanding experience enabled me to successfully address minor, moderate, and severe mental health and psychological cases and relieve the client I serve.

I found myself studying, working, and teaching Psychiatry. I sat up an objective to raise awareness and fight the armful stigma of seeking mental health support in our region of the Middle East. As I said at the beginning, mental health and psychological wellbeing are essential and no shame for who seeks support to live better, and I am here for that.

My Approach

It’s in my own slogan. In my practice, it’s not just about medication, although this’s very important, but that every person, a man, a woman, and even a child has an interesting story worth listening to.
